Thomas Gillespie, MD

Thomas Gillespie MD, FACS is a graduate of Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Gillespie was recently designated a Hernia Surgeon of Excellence as well as a Robotic Surgeon of Excellence. This a First for Phoenix as well as Arizona. Additionally, Dr. Gillespie is the Director of the Hernia Institute at Dignity Health. He is a Professor of Surgery at Creighton University School of Medicine as well as a Clinical Professor of Surgery at University of Arizona School of Medicine. He graduated from his surgical residency from Maricopa Medical Center and has been practicing surgery in Phoenix since 2001. He is a board certified surgeon. He has been practicing all aspects of Hernia Surgery at Saint Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center since 2003 and has performed thousands of hernia repairs.

My expertise include all aspects of general surgery, but specifically hernia care. I strive to approach each hernia in a solution based fashion that is patient centered. I see the occurrence of a hernia as a disease and not a simple circumstance. To that end, my initial goal will be to optimize all modifiable risk factors in anticipation of your hernia repair. I do employ state of the art technologies, but use an evidence based approach in their application. My goal is to create a personalized, tailored plan for each of my patients.I see myself as open minded. I hope to create a partnership with each of my patients that is based on mutual respect.
