Inpatient rehabilitation is the beginning of the recovery phase for adults and children who have experienced a recent illness, injury or surgery. In this recovery phase, patients stay at the hospital and receive consistent, personalized medical and rehabilitation care. Rehabilitation specialists assist with restoring strength, movement, and independent functioning before patients go home or to the next level of care.
Inpatient rehabilitation is for anyone who has recently had an illness, injury or surgery. At Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, our services are specifically designed for individuals who have experienced:
Amputation
Brain injury
Degenerative neurological disorders
Major multiple trauma
Neurological difficulties
Orthopedic dysfunction
Pediatric illness or injury
Pulmonary (lung and breathing) difficulties
During inpatient rehabilitation, you’ll receive structured, intensive therapy in a hospital setting. A team of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and others will coordinate your care as needed.
Each day, you’ll complete a set of therapies tailored to your needs. Therapy often includes exercises that target specific symptoms or abilities. The goal of inpatient rehabilitation is to help you regain strength, function and independence while preparing for a safe transition home or to the next level of care. You’ll also receive ongoing medical care as needed.
At Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, we’re ready to support all aspects of your recovery. Our comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services for children and adults include:
Acute stroke rehabilitation
Neurological (cognitive) rehabilitation
Pain management
Inpatient rehabilitation takes place while staying at the hospital or a dedicated rehabilitation center. This type of on-site program provides daily intensive therapy and continued medical care following an injury, illness or surgical treatment.
Outpatient rehabilitation involves attending scheduled therapy sessions while living at home. Both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs are designed to support recovery by improving function and promoting independence.
If you’ve suffered through a disabling illness like a brain or spinal cord injury, injury including amputation, major surgery or even general surgery, we’re here to help. Our treatment team consists of doctors, physiatrists (doctors who specialize in physical therapy) rehab nurses and social workers.
Depending on your particular needs, you’ll also engage with any or all of the following:
Occupational therapists
Orthotic/prosthetic specialists
Physical therapists
Registered dietitians
