At Dignity Health Perinatal Care in Santa Maria, we help expectant moms have a healthy pregnancy and a safe delivery. Your doctor and maternal-fetal medicine specialists work together to care for women with medical conditions during pregnancy and also care for women who experience unexpected problems during pregnancy. These include preterm labor, bleeding or high blood pressure. Additionally, maternal-fetal medicine doctors provide routine prenatal screening with ultrasound. They also offer counseling and testing for genetic disorders that complicate pregnancy.
We are a proud part of the Pacific Central Coast Health Centers (PHC) medical group.
Maternal and fetal medicine specialists, also called perinatologists, are medical doctors who specialize in high-risk pregnancies, maternal and fetal testing and fetal therapy.
Our obstetricians and nurse midwives provide compassionate expert care to you during pregnancy, childbirth and after you’ve had your baby.
Our primary care and specialists offer a full range of services, from preventative to prenatal care. Your health is our top priority.
We know every journey to health and wellness is different. Whether you need cost estimates, financial assistance, help paying bills or information about accepted insurance plans, we’re here to guide you and help make the process as simple and reassuring as possible.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is a subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that involves caring for parents with high-risk pregnancies. MFM doctors treat women with medical conditions in pregnancy and those who face unexpected complications in pregnancy, such as preterm labor, high blood pressure and bleeding.
All expectant mothers should see a doctor throughout their pregnancy. However, if you have a high-risk pregnancy, you may have to visit the doctor more regularly.
During an MFM appointment, your doctor will:
Perform prenatal testing
Help you manage any preexisting health conditions
Adjust or prescribe new medications
The type of care you receive will depend on you and your baby’s specific needs. Trust the experienced maternity specialists at Dignity Health Perinatal Care in Santa Maria for personalized care during and after your pregnancy.
Not all women need perinatal care, though MFM doctors do provide routine prenatal screening and ultrasound.
You may benefit from seeing a maternal-fetal medicine specialist if you:
Have a preexisting health issue, such as a heart condition, before getting pregnant
Develop a pregnancy-related complication, such as gestational diabetes
Are pregnant with more than one baby
Are pregnant with a baby with a prenatal condition
