13 CommonSpirit Hospitals Earn Top Patient Safety Award

Thirteen CommonSpirit Health hospitals have received the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades. The award, announced during National Patient Safety Awareness Week, highlights hospitals that consistently minimize preventable complications and events during a patient’s hospital stay.

The recognition places these CommonSpirit facilities among the top 10% and top 5% of hospitals in the nation for patient safety outcomes.

The CommonSpirit Health hospitals recognized with the Healthgrades 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award include:

• CHI Health St. Elizabeth (Lincoln, NE)

• CommonSpirit Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley (West Jordan, UT)

• Marian Regional Medical Center (Santa Maria, CA)

• Mercy Medical Center Merced (Merced, CA)

• Mercy San Juan Medical Center (Carmichael, CA)

• Methodist Hospital of Sacramento (Sacramento, CA)

• Northridge Hospital Medical Center (Northridge, CA)

• OrthoColorado Hospital (Lakewood, CO)

• Saint Rose Dominican Hospitals Siena (Henderson, NV)

• Sequoia Hospital (Redwood City, CA)

• St. Luke's Health-Memorial Hospital-Lufkin (Lufkin, TX)

• Woodland Memorial Hospital (Woodland, CA)

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals nationwide for their performance in preventing serious, potentially avoidable complications during hospital stays. These 13 CommonSpirit hospitals were recognized for their performance based on an analysis of risk-adjusted outcomes across 13 specific patient safety indicators (PSIs) from 2022-2024.

The Healthgrades Patient Safety Awards are just one measure of a comprehensive patient safety and quality program that prioritizes and scales best practices across the system, which has resulted in CommonSpirit receiving several recent accolades, including:

• 43% of eligible CommonSpirit hospitals earned 4 or 5 CMS Star ratings, compared to the national average of 37%.
