Yes, we proudly participate in recognized national clinical trials. The doctors and research investigators at St. Joseph's Cardiac Research Department have been conducting clinical research ethically, safely and efficiently since 1996. We have since taken part in many clinical trials for devices and medications. Our focus is on serious medical issues like coronary artery disease, heart attacks, acute coronary syndrome, carotid artery narrowing and bypass surgery.

  • Chest pressure or discomfort

  • Heartbeat changes, such as fluttering or racing

  • Shortness of breath

  • Swelling in the legs or feet

  • Unexplained fatigue

Understanding your heart health can help you take steps to stay well. Start with your primary care provider for an initial assessment. The acronym BE FAST is a helpful way to recall stroke warning signs, which happen suddenly. Seek medical help if you have these stroke symptoms:

In cardiac arrest, the heart suddenly stops beating. This causes blood to stop pumping to the body. If the heartbeat is not restarted within minutes, the person may die. This problem is also called sudden cardiac arrest.
