The Dignity Health Stroke Center at Mercy Hospital Downtown specializes in stroke care and comprehensive neurological support. Our stroke care network offers fast, coordinated treatment and specialized support close to home. 

As a Joint Commission Primary Care Stroke Center, our center is fully equipped to treat acute strokes, provide clot-dissolving medications and follow evidence-based protocols to improve patient outcomes. Mercy Hospital Downtown also participates in the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines® – Stroke program.

Our stroke team provides expert acute stroke treatment, including administering tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) medication to dissolve blood clots, conducting thorough evaluations and providing individualized care. We also offer dedicated intensive care units and stroke rehabilitation services.

  • Balance: Watch for sudden loss of balance or dizziness.

  • Eyes: Check for vision loss in one or both eyes.

  • Face: Look for an uneven smile or weakness on one side of the face.

  • Arms: Check for weakness or inability to raise one arm. 

  • Speech: Recognize sudden slurring of words.
