Founded more than 100 years ago by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Hospital Downtown has served Bakersfield and Kern County with a long tradition of compassionate care. Preregistration is not required, but it can help make the process easier. By providing your information ahead of time, you may save time and reduce stress on the day of your appointment or admission. While we do not currently offer online preregistration, our admitting team is here to help.

  • Type of procedure (such as knee replacement or hernia repair surgery)

Before hospitalization, it can help to understand your rights as a patient and gather a few important items in advance. You have the right to make decisions about your medical care, including being informed about your treatment options and their possible benefits and risks. You may choose to consent to or refuse treatment, including life-sustaining care.

Bring the following items with you to the hospital:

  • A list of all current medications, including over-the-counter medications and dosage details
  • Your insurance card or billing information
  • Your Advance Directive or a completed copy of our form (English and Spanish)
  • Personal toiletries and containers for items like glasses, contacts or hearing aids if you’ll be staying overnight
  • Minimal clothing, including comfortable sleepwear, a robe and slippers
