Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Hospital Southwest has served Kern County families for more than a century. Today, our 184-bed hospital cares for patients across Bakersfield and Kern County and is the only hospital located west of Highway 99 on Bakersfield’s rapidly expanding west side.

To help meet growing community needs, the recently-opened Thomas M. Hardt Tower added 106 beds, including 18 private neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) suites, a 24-room intensive care unit (ICU), six new operating rooms, and advanced cardiac and neurosurgery capabilities. Mercy Hospital Southwest continues to offer services, programs and facilities that support patients and families across Bakersfield and Kern County.

Open now, the new Thomas M. Hardt Tower adds 142,000 square feet of modern care space at Mercy Hospital Southwest. The tower includes 106 new beds, including 18 private NICU suites, a 24-room ICU, six new operating rooms and space for advanced cardiac and neurosurgery capabilities. The expansion also includes 370 parking spaces and improves hospital flow to support emergency department capacity and patient comfort.
