Yes. All patients must register at St. Luke's Health – Lakeside Hospital.

Before you are admitted, we will contact you to gather information about you and your insurance coverage. We also will discuss the estimated portion of your bill that will be your responsibility. If you have not been contacted within two days of your procedure, please call Patient Access Services at (936) 266-9000.

Some insurance plans require precertification or authorization 24 hours prior to hospitalization (even for an emergency admission). Check your insurance card for instructions. If precertification is required, you or a family member should contact your insurance provider as soon as possible to avoid delays.

The preadmission process involves setting up your account with your insurance information, completing a nursing interview and assessment and undergoing any required tests, such as lab work or an EKG. If your procedure involves anesthesia, additional tests may be needed.

To schedule your preadmission or lab testing, call (936) 266-9001 to speak to a preadmission testing (PAT) representative. On the day of your visit, please check in at the main registration area, where a receptionist will direct you to the preadmission area.

  • Shower or bathe as usual the night before or morning of your procedure. Use antiseptic soap if instructed, and avoid perfumes, lotions or powders.

  • Do not bring valuables, including jewelry, wallets or purses, to the hospital.

  • Wear loose-fitting clothes or pajamas. For knee surgery, shorts are recommended.

  • Provide your physician with a list of all medications, including herbal supplements and vitamins. Your physician will provide any necessary medications during your stay.

  • Limit or avoid smoking before your procedure. Smoking is not allowed on hospital grounds.

  • Notify your physician if you develop a sore throat, cold, fever or other symptoms before your procedure.
