Genetic counseling is a service where trained specialists help identify how your genes may put you at a greater risk of cancer and the steps you can take to protect your health.

At Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, our team of licensed and certified genetic counselors will:

1. Review personal and family medical history and explain associated cancer risk

2. Advise on management of hereditary cancer risk (cancer risk from a mutated gene you inherited at birth)

3. Collaborate with your referring primary care provider on diagnosis and treatment recommendations to ensure coordinated care

4. Serve as your advocate, sharing community and educational resources with you and your family

If desired, our board-certified genetic counselors can help you understand your personal cancer risk and decide whether genetic testing is right for you. Our dedicated oncology nurse navigators are specialized nurses who help guide you through cancer treatment. Think of them as your direct link to your doctor.
