We offer advanced stroke care through our telestroke system, a form of telemedicine that allows you and your local doctor to have a virtual consultation with a Dignity Health neurologist. This enables you to begin care in the critical early stages of a suspected stroke. For people outside the Greater Sacramento region, our telestroke services can help make a lifesaving difference.

The CommonSpirit Health Telemedicine Network partners with community hospitals to offer timely consultations with our specialists. Through this program, an on-call stroke specialist uses a robot they control remotely to assess stroke symptoms. This technology allows our specialists to be at your bedside virtually within minutes, providing immediate access to advanced care whether you live in an urban or rural community.

Stroke risk can be evaluated through a review of your health history, lifestyle factors and medical screenings. A primary care provider or neurology specialist can assess common risk factors such as high blood pressure, cholesterol levels, diabetes, heart conditions and family history. In some cases, testing such as blood pressure checks, cholesterol screening or carotid artery imaging may be recommended.

Neurology clinical research and clinical trials explore new treatments for neurological conditions. If studies show that these treatments or devices are safe and effective, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) may approve them for public use.

Dignity Health Neurological Institute participates in multiple multi-center, national and international clinical research trials. Through clinical trials, we help discover new preventive care and treatments for stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and headache.

Many major health insurance plans cover neurology services, including office visits, diagnostic testing and ongoing treatment. Coverage can vary based on your plan, provider network and whether a referral is required. Our staff can help verify insurance coverage, explain benefits and answer questions before your procedure, so you can focus on your care.

Dignity Health Neurological Institute of Greater Sacramento offers spine surgery to those suffering from back or spinal pain due to injury or arthritis.

If your doctor recommends spine surgery, they will typically provide a referral to a neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine surgeon. This specialist will evaluate your condition and determine the right treatment plan for you. The referral process usually begins after initial evaluations for persistent back or neck pain have been completed.
