Genetic counseling is a service where trained specialists help identify how your genes may affect your risk of cancer and the steps you can take to support your health.

At Dignity Health – Mercy General Hospital, our team of licensed and certified genetic counselors will:

1. Review personal and family medical history and explain associated cancer risk
2. Advise on management of hereditary cancer risk (cancer risk from a mutated gene you inherited at birth)
3. Collaborate with your primary referring provider on diagnosis and treatment recommendations to ensure coordinated care
4. Serve as your advocate, sharing community and educational resources with you and your family

If desired, our board-certified genetic counselors can help you understand your personal cancer risk and decide whether genetic testing is right for you.
