Yes. At Dignity Health – Memorial Hospital, keeping families close is a priority. We offer two on-campus housing options to support loved ones during hospital stays. The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House offers a “home away from home” for families of pediatric or NICU patients under the age of 21. The Hope House, built by the Kern County Builders Exchange, serves families of patients 21 years of age and older and provides overflow housing when needed. Both houses offer comfort, support and a welcoming space just steps from the hospital.
We appreciate our volunteers who bring comfort, support and a personal touch to patients, families and staff. Adults 18 or older and youth ages 16-17 can serve as greeters, unit liaisons, NICU cuddlers, gift shop workers and pet therapy providers.
Applicants can submit an online application and complete an interview, background check, orientation, training and immunizations. All volunteers must commit to a weekly 4-hour shift for a minimum of 200 total service hours.
Those interested in volunteer opportunities may also consider becoming a patient and family centered care (PFAC) ambassador, serving as a nonclinical caregiver or patient liaison. Call (661) 541-0502 to inquire about PFAC opportunities.
Preregistration is not required, but it can help make the process easier. By providing your information ahead of time, you may save time and reduce stress on the day of your appointment or admission. While we do not currently offer online preregistration, our admitting team is here to help.
